On the Rise: 13 year old Aanya Sujay

Q: What is your name, age, and where do you train?
A: My name is Aanya Sujay, I am 13 years old, and I train at Blakeney Racquet Club in Waxhaw, NC. I also practice outside of training to get better.
Q: What is your UTR and how often do you compete?
A: My UTR is 5.27, I play tournaments pretty often whenever I can (atleast 2-3 times a month)so I can get more match experience.
Q: How do you stay focused during a match?
A: I just try to think about one point at a time. I don’t think about the score too much, and I just keep trying my best at every point.
Q: Many players like to look at their opponent’s rankings, many don’t. What do you prefer and why?
A: I do look at rankings and I prepare myself accordingly. It helps me understand what kind of match to expect. When I win against a higher-ranked player, I feel really proud.
Q: What is your pre-match routine or superstition?
A: Before matches I warm up, stretch, and hit a bit. I also like listening to music so I can feel calm and ready.
Q: What do you love most about tennis?
A: I love playing matches and trying to get better. I like to hit hard and play consistent, and I’m always trying to improve. It feels really good when I see my utr go up.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to share?
A: Tennis is really fun for me, and it teaches me to keep going even when it’s hard.
