Junior Tennis Summer Camp Packing List: Everything You Need
Packing for tennis camp can be stressful — you don't want to forget something important, but you also don't want to overpack. Here's everything your junior player needs, organized by category.
Tennis Gear
- 2-3 tennis rackets (strings can break — always bring a backup)
- Tennis shoes — at least 2 pairs (one may get wet or wear out)
- Tennis-specific socks (thicker, cushioned) — at least 7 pairs
- Hat or visor
- Sunglasses (sport-specific with a strap)
- Overgrips — a roll of at least 10
- Wristbands and/or headband
- Tennis bag large enough for all gear
Clothing
- Tennis shirts/tops — at least 7 (you'll sweat through 1-2 per day)
- Tennis shorts or skirts — at least 5
- Compression shorts if preferred
- Light warm-up jacket or pullover (mornings can be cool)
- Rain jacket
- Casual clothes for evenings and off-court time
- Swimsuit if the camp has a pool
- Pajamas
- Flip-flops or sandals for around the dorm/cabin
Health and Hygiene
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ (bring a large bottle — you'll use a lot)
- Lip balm with SPF
- Insect repellent
- Blister bandages and athletic tape
- Any medications (with a note from parents for camp staff)
- Toiletries — shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant
- Towels — at least 2 (one for showers, one for court/pool)
Hydration and Nutrition
- 2 large water bottles (at least 32 oz each)
- Electrolyte packets (Liquid IV, Nuun, or similar)
- Snack bars, trail mix, or other non-perishable snacks
- Peanut butter or almond butter packets (great portable protein)
Other Essentials
- Phone and charger
- Headphones
- Small backpack for daily use
- Notebook or journal
- Playing cards or games for downtime
- Laundry bag for dirty clothes
- Cash ($20-40 for vending machines or camp store)
What to Leave at Home
- Expensive jewelry or electronics you'd be upset to lose
- Running shoes (tennis shoes are required on court — running shoes can cause ankle injuries on court)
- Junk food in bulk (a few snacks are fine, but camps usually provide meals)
- Anything your child doesn't know how to use independently
