Junior Tennis Summer Camp Packing List: Everything You Need

Packing for tennis camp can be stressful — you don't want to forget something important, but you also don't want to overpack. Here's everything your junior player needs, organized by category.

Tennis Gear

  • 2-3 tennis rackets (strings can break — always bring a backup)
  • Tennis shoes — at least 2 pairs (one may get wet or wear out)
  • Tennis-specific socks (thicker, cushioned) — at least 7 pairs
  • Hat or visor
  • Sunglasses (sport-specific with a strap)
  • Overgrips — a roll of at least 10
  • Wristbands and/or headband
  • Tennis bag large enough for all gear

Clothing

  • Tennis shirts/tops — at least 7 (you'll sweat through 1-2 per day)
  • Tennis shorts or skirts — at least 5
  • Compression shorts if preferred
  • Light warm-up jacket or pullover (mornings can be cool)
  • Rain jacket
  • Casual clothes for evenings and off-court time
  • Swimsuit if the camp has a pool
  • Pajamas
  • Flip-flops or sandals for around the dorm/cabin

Health and Hygiene

  • Sunscreen SPF 50+ (bring a large bottle — you'll use a lot)
  • Lip balm with SPF
  • Insect repellent
  • Blister bandages and athletic tape
  • Any medications (with a note from parents for camp staff)
  • Toiletries — shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant
  • Towels — at least 2 (one for showers, one for court/pool)

Hydration and Nutrition

  • 2 large water bottles (at least 32 oz each)
  • Electrolyte packets (Liquid IV, Nuun, or similar)
  • Snack bars, trail mix, or other non-perishable snacks
  • Peanut butter or almond butter packets (great portable protein)

Other Essentials

  • Phone and charger
  • Headphones
  • Small backpack for daily use
  • Notebook or journal
  • Playing cards or games for downtime
  • Laundry bag for dirty clothes
  • Cash ($20-40 for vending machines or camp store)

What to Leave at Home

  • Expensive jewelry or electronics you'd be upset to lose
  • Running shoes (tennis shoes are required on court — running shoes can cause ankle injuries on court)
  • Junk food in bulk (a few snacks are fine, but camps usually provide meals)
  • Anything your child doesn't know how to use independently
